Roof Cleaning in Holmdel NJ
Have you ever noticed all of the dirty roofs in your neighborhood? This was never such a big problem back in the 70s and 80s. The problem of dirty roofs starts back in the 70s. When there were oil embargoes back in the 70s the cost of roof shingles went sky-high. Roof shingles have a asphalt base. When the cost of oil rises so does the cost of roofing shingles. So, in order to make the shingle more affordable, the manufacturer extracted a lot of the oil out of the shingle. But this made the shingle light and flimsy. So they added crushed limestone to the shingle. This made the single heavier and more durable. Limestone is an organic material. The limestone is the suggested food source for this particular type of bacteria. Black staining on a roof is actually a bacteria called Gloeocapsa Magma. When looked at through a microscope this bacteria is actually green. The green is part of a uv repellent shell that this bacteria creates. The bacteria lives inside a fluid held shell. This is why this bacteria can live for long periods of time even with no water.
For the purpose of making sure this bacteria is completely dead, you must penetrate the shell in order to kill the bacteria. This is exactly what our detergent does. It dissolves the outer shell to kill the bacteria. It is the act of complete sterilization that the roof will stay clean for an extended period of time. Pressure washing does not kill a single spore. Power washing a roof can cause long-term damage. Anyone who offers to power washer roof cannot possibly offer any more than a one to two-year warranty. Power washing can create a perception of clean, But you cannot see on a microscopic level the spores that are left behind. By leaving spores behind the stable quickly regenerate.
Roof Moss Removal
A roof with black staining will retain more moisture. This is why moss and lichens it will usually follow. Moss should not be pressure washed either. Moss develops a root system just like a plant. If you pull moss off of the roof prematurely, you will take the roofing granules with it. It is always best to treat the Moss and let it die. The boss will decompose and dry out. The root system will detach on its own. It will come off little by little with each rain. This is the least aggressive way to clean the roofing shingle. It will take roughly 90 days after treatment until the roof comes fully clean.
Soft Power Washing for Sidings
Never let anyone high pressure washer siding. High pressure can cause damage to siding. They can also do damage to screens and caulking and cement foundation. 98% of the staining on a home is organic like mold, mildew, dirt, general pollutants, cobwebs, etc. If you are not using a detergent to sterilize the siding the stain will come back very quickly. We like to use a detergent that has a hint of bleach. We apply our detergent at low pressure. We then rinse at low pressure with high volumes of water. The exterior will stay clean four to six times longer compared to traditional high-pressure washing. The only stains that will not remove are chemical reaction stains like rust or oxidation. All siding types that can be cleaned with this method including vinyl, aluminum, stucco, and even painted surfaces. This cleaning process has nothing to do with high-pressure water. Even cement is cleaned by pretreating the surface with a chlorinated soap. By pretreating cement surfaces it will stay cleaner 4 to 6 times longer than traditional high-pressure washing.
